Week Running in Vibram Five Fingers

by Administrator | post a comment

I did long slow runs for years myself...and was nothing but a long slow runner! Have beening incorperating speed work over the last 2 years and it has certainly helped. My endurance is great, I know I can just go and go, seemingly forever - but I want to get done faster, so I am not out there "forever". Someone once told me "the only way to get fast running, is to get out there and run fast". I will run in Vibram five fingers.

I am admittidely nervous about my 1/2 marathon on the 17th of January. Missed 2 long training runs, due to being sick recently. Went out an ran 50 min wednesday, after having been off working out for just over a week. Tuesday was my first day back, did a toned down lifting workout and taught my usual spin class. I felt pretty good on the run in Five finger shoes on Wednesday, but perhaps going out and running 50min the first day back running was pushing it. I then tried running 30 min on thursday and started having foot issues towards the last 10 min of the run. The pain in my foot is still there. I don't doubt that I'll make it through the race - endurance wise, I am not sure that I will be able to just count on my endurance pre-Vibram five fingers running and just go do 13 miles. Longest I ran in my vff shoes's is 10 miles. Normallly that would be about the longest I would run before a 1/2 marathon. I am going to the chiropractor Saturday morning to get my foot looked at (she does active release technique) and I am hoping that will help.

I am also noticing some wear on the bottoms of my Vibram fivefingers kso trek, at the ball of my foot. Anyone else notice this type of thing? I use my KSO almost exclusively for running - and I usually run on the roads.
